Poetry on Wednesday

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I---
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

  1. I have always loved this poem Karen...it has sentiments, because the teacher who introduced it to me was my favorite! After all this time, it still brings back memories. Thanks for sharing... it certainly brightened my day!

  2. I've always loved that poem. Ah if we could only walk back on that road and take a little meander down the other...just for the sake of argument.

  5. There was a YA series when I was in jr. high about a teen girl who was at boarding school for ballerinas. She's not a good student because at home everyone knew she'd be a dancer, but she likes this poem because it reminds her of her life. And I always remember those books when I see the poem.
